| Urie and Blanton was established in 1946 by John M. Urie, Sr. and Robert S. Blanton as a partnership in Prospect Park, Pa. The business was engaged in structural steel construction. In 1949 they became a distributor of industrial gases of the Union Carbide Corporation and opened their second office in Wilmington, Delaware under the name of Urie & Blanton, Inc. In 1955 they incorporated a third business as Allied Propane Company. The business grew and they eventually phased out the structural steel business and concentrated on the welding supplies and industrial gases supplied by the Linde Division of Union Carbide Corporation. In 1957 they moved their Prospect Park operation to the current location at 138 Keystone Road, Chester, PA. In 1971 the business had the addition of second generation coming into the business. 1984 was a year of major change for the company, the partnership was dissolved and Urie & Blanton Company was incorporated in the state of Pennsylvania. It is also the year when the Urie family bought out the Blanton family. The management and ownership structure has remained the same since that time. The welding supply industry has been through many changes and the primary vendor of welding supplies and industrial gases are supplied by the IWDC (Independent Welding Distributor Cooperation). Urie and Blanton today is a well established supplier of all aspects of the welding industry in the Greater Delaware Valley area. The company has had a very successful past and will have an even greater future. As the smoke stack industries have been replaced, the service industries have grown. Urie and Blanton have been able to adapt and adjust to these market changes. The Companies now have the third generation of the Urie family in the business. With the youth of the third generation the business has a very bright future and will continue to grow. |
